Online Information

An article from Infoworld has indicated that we are creating information at a more rapid growth rate than we can handle.

The amount of digital information includes not just the data on the HD but also data generated from video cameras, TV broadcasts, DVDs & CDs and the other media that captures data in its different formats.
It has been calculated that in 2007, the amount soared to 281 exabytes (281bln GB). By the year 2011 it is being estimated that this amount reaches 1800 exabytes of information.

The question, from my perspective as an information professional, is the following:

(1) How much of this created data do we actually make use of?
(2) How much of this created data is actually authoritative, reliable and accurate?
(3) How easy/difficult it is for a user to search for the needed information?

While I acknowledge that not all of this created information is academic in nature, or actually online, the fact that an amount of it is online, therefore, accessible, will create a relevant difficulty for the end-user to search.
